Geekvape Aegis Boost: Features and First Impressions

Product intro and specs

The Aegis Boost is the latest pod-style AIO from Geekvape, and the first device of this type in the Aegis line. The Aegis mods are some of the most popular in vaping due to their rugged capability, tactical style, and great performance. The line started off with the original Aegis, a single-26650 battery mod and one of the first rugged and waterproof mods on the market, creating a trend that was soon followed by many other companies. Since then, we have seen the dual-18650 battery Aegis Legend, the internal battery Aegis Mini, the single-18650 Aegis Solo, the dual-18650 Aegis X with its impressive screen, and the Aegis Squonk mod.

The Boost is an AIO with wattage and airflow adjustability, and the seventh installment in a line of great-performing products.

Note: The Aegis Boost is compatible with an RBA head that can be purchased separately. I have not received one in my package, but I will test it for my full review if it reaches me on time.

MyVpro sent me the Aegis Boost free of charge. A full, in-depth review will be posted in the following weeks.

Geekvape Aegis Boost features

The Aegis Boost has a similar form factor to the Aegis Mini mod, but it is a bit smaller and lighter since it is essentially a pod vape. It’s obviously much larger than most pods out there but is a lot more adjustable too. Like the rest of the line, the Aegis Boost is mostly black and features a rubberized coating around the mod. This adds to the durability but also gives it a nice soft feel. I have the gunmetal one and the leather on it is black. Looking at the pics online, it seems that all color options come with black leather. The gunmetal does add some nice color contrast, but I would have preferred one of the brighter ones compared to two dark colors.

Outside of its compatibility with an RBA head, a big difference between this and your standard pod system is that it has a screen and adjustments. Companies have been stepping their game up lately offering more pod style AIO devices with higher wattages and more features than they are used to. The Boost has a small but bright black and white screen that shows resistance, power output, puff counter, and battery level. You have up and down buttons to adjust power between 5 and 40 watts in 0.5-watt increments.

They list the battery at 1500 mAh with a 1.5-amp charge rate. Both good specs if true, but I’ll test those in my review to make sure they are accurate. Another cool feature is the adjustable airflow and separate drip tips. The air adjusts easily via a wheel on the front, kind of like the Aspire Breeze NXT. And they include two drip tips, one for direct lung and one for mouth to lung, so you get some draw adjustment to your preference.

First impressions

The Aegis Boost is very nicely built as expected. It’s solid, rugged, and has no button rattle. It has the same tactical style as the rest of the Aegis line and the same high-quality feel. It’s a little early to judge performance, but I’ve been vaping on the 0.4-ohm coil with 70/30 3mg e-juice at 25 watts and it’s performing well at that watt range. The Boost is button-activated only and works like most mods do—five clicks of the fire button to turn on and off and up and down to adjust power. As long as the coil has good coil life and the other coil and RBA head are performing at a high level, Geekvape is going to have a real winner here.

I do have a few minor cons, but nothing that’s a deal breaker. First off, as I always point out, I hate dark tinted pods. Companies need to stop making dark pods for looks and go with clear for convenience—it should be easy to see your juice level. Then the drip tip they provide is pretty loose, in the sense that it rotates very easily. It’s a little annoying. And the AFC wheel is also a little on the loose side too. Lastly, the flap of the fill plug is too small. I’ve been using tweezers or a flathead screwdriver to pop it open. Would have probably been easier if I had fingernails but I’ve never had that issue with other pod systems, so it stands out. In any case, a few minor cons aren’t too important, and this is an early pre-release sample so there is hope that they could fix a few of those small issues before production.

I have started testing this product and a full review will be posted here soon. Let me know what you think of the Aegis Boost in the comment section.
