Geekvape Aegis X: Features and First Impressions

Product intro and specs

The Aegis X is the latest dual-18650 battery mod from Geekvape. It’s the first one they released since the excellent Nova mod came out, a bit over a year ago. The Aegis line of mods has become very popular due to their ruggedness, tactical style, and great performance.

The line started off with the original Aegis, which was a single-26650 battery mod and one of the first rugged and waterproof mods on the market. Since then, we have seen the dual-18650 battery Aegis Legend, the single-18650 Aegis Solo, the internal battery Aegis Mini, and, releasing alongside the X, their Aegis Squonk mod. The only knock I’ve had with the line was poor temp control performance from the Aegis and Aegis Legend, but the Solo fixed that, so I have high hopes for the Aegis X.

Geekvape Aegis X features

The Aegis X has a similar form factor to the Aegis Legend and uses the same bottom latch battery door, but they managed to make this one quite a bit lighter. It’s listed at 31.5 mm at its widest point but the top bevels up a little. A 24 mm atomizer will sit flush with the edges on the top, not including the rubberized cover—the cover will give you a few extra millimeters of space to avoid overhang with larger atomizers. It’s really comfy in the hand and when thumb-firing it the screen will be facing out for right-handed users.

Like the rest of the line, the Aegis X is mostly black and features a rubberized coating around the mod. This adds to the durability but also gives it a nice soft feel. The color options are all on the accent panels of the side opposite to the screen. I have the orange one which has a matte orange finish. The older Aegis mods had a leather material inside of the accent panels, but on this one it feels like a tactical cloth-like material. It has a nice thick feel to it and looks great and feels soft. The mod is made out of “up to 6 high grade materials to improve durability and user experience” and you can see the list of materials at Geekvape’s website.

The 510 connection is centered this time, but the big update comes in the screen. Instead of the small black and white front-facing screen of the Aegis Legend, the Aegis X features a massive and impressive 2.4-inch color OLED screen that takes up most of the side of the mod. The size may have you believe that it is a touchscreen, but it isn’t, and the mod is controlled by using the three buttons up front.

First impressions

The Aegis X is very nicely built, as expected. It’s solid, rugged, and has no button rattle at all. It’s a little early to judge performance, but I have been using it in temperature control mode and so far, so good. Based on the fact the Aegis Solo and Nova both did TC well, I have high hopes that the X will pass all my tests. They also list a 12-volt max output, which means that it has a boost circuit. I’m not surprised, as all Geekvape mods have had boost circuits recently. In fact, Geekvape is one of only a few companies that uses boost circuits in dual-battery mods. The mod also has watt curve mode and preheat settings for soft, normal and hard.

So far, it’s been a very nice, simple, and easy to use mod that is performing well. I remember when they made their first mod, which was some lackluster triple-18650 mod under their Digiflavor brand that never got any traction. They then made a dual-battery 100-watt squonker that looked like a Kanger product. I wouldn’t have imagined back then that they would end up being one of the best mod makers in vaping, but here we are now, and the Aegis X seems to continue at the level of quality and performance that’s expected from Geekvape mods nowadays.

I have started testing this product and a full review will be posted here soon. Let me know what you think of the Aegis X in the comment section.

I love my Aegis X. I put a Zeus Special Edition sub ohm tank on it and it’s the perfect match. The mod fires instantly and supplies consistent power out put. You can’t find a better tank than the Zeus. Flavor and clouds are outstanding and as I said a perfect addition to my Aegis X setup. I’m on the same coil for 2 weeks and it’s performing beautifully. But this is about the mod. Great feel in the hand. Lightweight. Sturdy and reliable, I consider the Aegis X one of my favorite mods in my collection, which is considerable. And finally that screen. Beautiful, vibrant colors with options for backgrounds and colors. Can’t be beat. Great mod for the money. Get one before they’re gone. I have a feeling these won’t last long.

Great read for a great mod…i never really got into the other Aegis models but this one is awesome! I mean yeah, the screen is huge which is a love it or hate it type thing…i happen to love it but its large. Seems really sturdy and built well..I would recommend it for anyone, especially if you need a great mod that will stand up to some abuse
